Tomato Transplanting

It was time. Our seedlings were crowding for light and room in those little cells. Here’s the photo timeline of our progress: seedlings ready for transplant It was a nice warm overcast afternoon so we moved outside to transplant our seedlings into 4 inch pots tomato trans 1 One plant grown in a soil block, placed in the 4″ pot after removing the lower leaves. tomato trans 2 Then filled with soil and buried the stem. Here’s a closeup of those hairs on the stem that will grow into new roots in just a few days. tomato hairs Each pot is placed in a tray of water to allow the soil to soak up as much moisture as it could before return the newly transplanted into a protected area for the next few days to harden off. tomato trans 3
