A back-kitchen start

Charles C. Hart had spent fourteen years with the Johnson & Robbins Company when, in 1892, he began a small consignment seed-packet business in his own home. The back kitchen served as packing room, office, and warehouse. It was the sixth seed firm in Wethersfield, Connecticut, a town long known as a cradle of the American seed trade.
